My years of being a photographer in Paris have shown me that a wedding in the Montmartre area of Paris is a common fantasy for those with a heavy crush on the city of love. It’s the most romanticized area of Paris having been home to what seems like every artist and intellect of the Belle Époque. The Moulin Rouge lies under the shadows of the majestic domes of the Basilica of the Sacré Coeur. Lovers of French films will know it as Amélie Poulain’s neighborhood. So it’s easy to see why this setting is a dreamy wedding-day playground.

Our bride moved here from her native Australia after being seduced by this enticing city. Clearly susceptible to the enchantment of Parisian charms, Rachael was happy to stroll through the legendary streets of Montmartre with her French beau. Arnaud guided her along the famously winding streets of this neighborhood on the way from the wedding ceremony to their reception hall at the foot of the aforementioned Basilica.

My most difficult task as their wedding photographer during this lovely walk was having the discipline to resist pausing at every turn for more photos. On route to the wedding party, we stopped to play in sights so quaint that they seemed to be movie sets. Being keenly aware of the rich history of the area added a feel that goes beyond the happiness of being surrounded my picturesque sights. That mix of history and beauty is the alchemy that renders the unrivaled allure of Paris.
